September is always an exciting month at VIP Knoxville as we prepare for the many fall traditions and events that East Tennessee has to offer. But this year feels extra special as we celebrate our second annual 50 Under 50 issue. What began last year as a new opportunity to recognize some of the people making a difference across our community has quickly become a tradition I am proud to continue.

Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont has received a $2 million lead gift from Amy Buckner Chowdhry toward construction of a new learning center on its second campus property in Townsend, the largest gift to date for the project.

A Knoxville native who grew up in Monroe County, Chef Andrew brings more than 25 years of executive culinary experience to Holston Hills. A Johnson & Wales University-trained chef and longtime local favorite, Chef Andrew is well known throughout the East Tennessee restaurant community as a mentor, collaborator and friend to many.

Coming Home

A Knoxville native and graduate of Central High School and the University of Tennessee, Carin Elle Mead moved to Florida in 2020 to run the Scripps Research PhD program. There she met her husband, Justin, a Florida native, and settled into coastal living until Tennessee started calling her back.
